Every year vehicles have to be registered in California. There are fees that could be required on vehicle registration California. There is a base registration fee for any original or renewed vehicle registration. There is a California Highway Patrol fee for highway registered vehicles. A vehicle license fee that is based upon the purchase price or value of the vehicle. Special fees are collected for some counties and districts to fund programs. Motorcycle owners are expected to pay an annual safety fee. If a motorist wants a specialized plate, they are charged a special annual fee, for as long as they want to use the plate. There are other fees and penalties that can be charged by the DMV. All fees are distributed to the counties, cities, highway patrol and other state agencies or funds.
