Last weekend I went up to the cabin near Running Springs that is owned by my great uncle Pete. I like going up there about once every six months to get away from it all. I also like the fact he has a small creek that runs through the property. I have caught some fairly big trout out of that creek. One of the things I did for my uncle was to look at some Coffee Machines. He still has one of those old percolator type makers and I don’t really care for it. I wound up purchasing a more modern unit for the cabin.

Kitchen gadgets and equipment related to baking interest me. I guess I wouldn’t be able to identify the best mixers even if you asked me though. Mixers comparable to the one I utilize can’t be easily found. Mixers like mine are a classic selection and lasting favorite. I didn’t have very much of a choice when I got it though, as things were a really close fit in my tiny kitchen. It’s perpetually preferable to take all things in moderation; the same goes for the quantity I bake. At the same time, there’s probably nothing better than endless numbers of chocolate chip cookies too. It takes slightly longer but is so rewarding.

I was married not long ago and my sister gave me a bachelorette party, which I did not want but now have to admit I’m glad she gave me one because of one of the gifts I was given. I got the usual gifts everyone gets at these types of parties and I also was treated to the prerequisite male dancer but the best gifts were the two plus size swimwear that I received. They are made of mesh and are white, so when they get wet it seems as if I have nothing on. I love them and my husband is forever grateful to the friend that gave them to me.

It only takes a warm sunny day in mid-winter to get me thinking about the garden. I was out there tidying up as soon as the snow cleared and the temperature got up above 40. Taking a long look at the vegetable garden, I was wondering about buying an electric garden cultivator. It’s not enormous, but does create a lot of work, and I know I can save a lot of time with cultivating and tiling, as well as weeding, if I get a power driven tiller cultivator. I will have to sweeten it, though, for my wife. I need to find some new patio furniture about the same price.

I was trying to make a fish recipe that used lemon and dill butter, but I didn’t happen to have real lemons…or butter…or fresh dill. Turns out mixing a little dill powder in with margarine makes a nice dill butter substitute, for much less. Also, the dollar tree carries lemon substitute jars, two for a dollar. These were something that I wouldn’t recommend skimping on though. The lemon flavor didn’t come through on the salmon at all. After baking in the oven with the margarine and dill spread with fake lemon juice, the salmon just tasted like salmon. It was alright. But maybe using real, more expensive ingredients would be better.

I know a lot of people that don’t give a second thought to throwing out paperwork when they make a new purchase. I have done this in the past, but I have ended up regretting it. I am now careful to file things like lawn mower manuals away in a drawer. That way, if a maintenance or repair issue comes up, I can flip through the book and figure out if I can fix it on my own, or whether I actually need a professional to take care of it. I have been amazed at how often I have been able to handle it.

My brother in law loves tropical fish.  He always has at least four 55 gallon or larger aquariums going.  The problem is, he just hasn’t ever taken the time to determine the best aquarium supplies to get for which fish.  He has the same lighting for tanks that have live plants that he does for ones with plastic plants.  He didn’t have a heater in any of the tanks until he had to move them to the basement in the winter this past year.  I don’t know much about keeping an aquarium, but I do know that tropical fish need a tropical environment, which includes warm water.  Because of his lack of understanding he is constantly losing fish.  It’s time consuming, expensive and irresponsible to continue in this manner.

It seems like everybody in America is doing the best they can to make their dollar stretch as far as possible.
