DMOZ Directory

DMOZ or the Open Directory Project (ODP) is a web directory of almost 5 millions sites that is owned by AOL and run by an army of volunteers. Webmasters like to have their web sites listed in DMOZ as it is widely believed that having a site listed there helps in the ranking of the web site in the search engine results. This is open to dispute, with many believing that it does not. Members of the public are permitted to suggest websites to DMOZ for listings, but editors use many sources of information to find web sites to list in the directory.
