A Teen Fitness Center Deters Crime
On the outskirts of my exclusive suburb is a blighted area. Many poor families live there because they can’t afford to live in areas like mine. Instead of feeling guilty about having all the opportunities that my upbringing gave to me, I decided to share in my wealth. My neighbors and I came up with a plan to start a club for teenagers to hang out so they wouldn’t be roaming the streets after dark, and getting in trouble. We furnished it with fitness equipment and video games. Some people told us we were crazy for throwing our money away, and that everything would be torn up in a short period of time. So far, most of the teens have cherished their gift, and make sure others don’t ruin it for them.
